A RUNNER is set to live his dream of taking part in the New York Marathon despite fears he wouldn’t make it due to Superstorm Sandy.
Adam Wheeler, from Sutton Courtenay, was hoping to raise £1,000 for care charity Sue Ryder by running the marathon when Hurricane Sandy put his plans in doubt.
But the 32-year-old has now made it to the Big Apple and is looking forward to running tomorrow’s event.
He said: “By all accounts it looks like the race is going ahead.
“It is a bit challenging because my hotel has got no power and no water. But I didn’t expect the marathon to go ahead so I am pleased.”
Mr Wheeler flew out to New York on Thursday, after the storm hit the city on Monday night and Tuesday morning.
Meanwhile 40 pupils from Oxford High School who were trapped in New York during the storm returned home yesterday.
School spokesman Elanor Young said: “They have arrived safe and sound and been collected by their parents.”
