Sir – It is stated that the position of police and crime commissioner is outside of party politics and that those appointed to the role will be required to swear an oath to that effect.
If that is the case, then why are candidates clearly identifed in publicity material as representing certain parties?
The police and crime commissioner will be replacing the current police authorities that consist of elected councillors and members of the public.
I do not believe that an individual elected on a party-political ticket will not then go on serve that party in this role. I do not trust this process and I will not be voting in these elections.
E Blaze, Carterton
