Sir – Our thanks to Colin May on his complimentary letter (October 25) about East Oxford Orchestra’s concert on October 14.
A small correction — the East Oxford Orchestra is a professional orchestra comprising freelance musicians from the East Oxford area.
Matthew Spring premiered Howard Skempton’s Hurdy-gurdy Concerto in Brighton and in Munich, and Chris Redgate is Britain’s foremost contemporary music oboist. I’ll be playing all three of Ligeti’s wonderful harpsichord pieces for Plymouth’s Contemporary Music Festival next February. The concert was the brainchild of the inspirational music teacher Mel Houldershaw, whose genius lies in effecting charitable collaborations between children’s and youth groups, such as the St Mary and St John’s String Group and Choir, with interested professionals. Oxford Contemporary Music Festival, are you listening?
