I note that residents living in streets close to the east side of Oxford are bracing themselves against being inundated with displaced parked commuter cars from the East Oxford parking restrictions.
In 2004, Gosford & Water Eaton Parish Council objected to the North Oxford Controlled Parking Zone and Various Restrictions Order. The objection was based on the grounds that commuters to the city would park in village streets and catch a bus into Oxford, rather than drive to the Water Eaton, or Peartree park and ride to park.
The county council’s Transport Implementation Committee recommended their transport team at Environment and Economy “monitor the situation, determine the extent and nature of any parking problems and take what action is deemed appropriate and necessary”.
Despite a number of reminders that the parish is suffering from on-street parking problems, both council and residents are still waiting for this recommendation to be implemented. Come on OCC, please honour your commitment.
CARL SMITH, (Acting Temporary Parish Clerk), Gosford and Water Eaton Parish Council
