WE HAVE a need for a central swimming centre.
The ice rink should be situated outside the city boundaries β as the scarcity of rinks should be attracting people from outside Oxford, it would reduce traffic. The ice rink site should become a central swimming centre. All buses go to the city centre, even in walking distance from the station.
Everyone can enjoy swimming facilities from a few months old βtil we are about to drop dead. At the moment, living in the west of the city I have to take two buses to go swimming in Oxford town. Over-privileged areas (North Oxford) and under-privileged (The Leys), have their pool.
Close them all and create a fun (and serious) modern swimming centre, fit for the 22nd century. Swimming is one of the best exercises there is β get the National Health to pay for some of it. There is no better way of keeping healthy.
