REGARDING your Loose Ends column on October 27, Points to be made.
South Central Ambulance Service’s management seems to be somewhat upset by the Oxford Mail’s continuous criticism with reference to its poor performance, when more than 300 staff are still to go through CRB checks after the recent revelations of operations manager, Robert King, who was a convicted murderer (albeit some years ago) but still landed an ambulance service post dealing with the public until he was found out due to his drink-driving offence.
It is almost as if SCAS feels ‘hard done by’ with the Mail’s tenacious reporting.
I think the Mail is doing a sterling piece of work for anyone interested in a desire to improve the workings of our ambulance service – after all, how can you improve without criticism?
Ambulance management should look ‘inwardly’ instead of sniping at the Mail’s reports.
In a previous letter to these pages I wrote: “The frontline staff are excellent at what they do, they are the true ambassadors of the service.”
Little did I know I would soon need their assistance. I had collapsed unconscious at home and they proved my words, so many thanks to the two young ladies who attended and sorted me out.
I will never forget the quiet professional dedication applied. I believe they are based at Didcot. It is a great pity their management team aren’t all ‘singing from the same hymn sheet ‘ at the moment.
