IN response to Pamela St Clair’s letter (ViewPoints, October 25) regarding buses in the city centre being wasteful, I feel the need to point out that Oxford Bus Company is one of the ‘greenest’ bus companies in the country.
She claims she counted 33 buses, each with a few passengers. With my basic maths skills, that makes 99 people who could potentially have driven their car into the city centre.
Surely this would create more pollution and congestion than a few people travelling by bus?
Also, I would imagine that the stretch between the police station and Carfax Tower contains the most bus stops in central Oxford, meaning that buses from many different routes will obviously converge in that area.
As a non-driver, I rely heavily on buses and feel that, of late, they have been subject to much unnecessary criticism.
They do a wonderful job and as such should be left alone to continue providing the excellent service they provide.
