A LETTER (ViewPoints, October 26) asks why some local councillors in Marston did not attend the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate loss of life in World War II. I was not aware of the event and would have attended had I been able.
I cannot believe that Councillor Haines and his supporters wish to bring partisan politics into remembrance of the sacrifice made by the armed forces and civilians during past conflicts.
Use of such a deeply serious element of national spirit / identity to gain publicity for political reasons demeans the deep debt we all owe to the fallen and their families.
ROY DARKE County Councillor for Marston / Headington division Edgeway Road Oxford
