A NEW scheme has been launched to extend bulk buying of heating oil to electricity for rural Oxfordshire residents.
It is hoped the scheme will save cash for residents who do not have gas and cannot get cheap deals. It is the brainchild of Wootton resident Chris Pomfret, who already runs a oil bulk buying scheme.
Members pay £24 a year to join and then pay further oil and electricity costs.
Mr Pomfret said electricity supplier Green Energy UK had pledged to beat competitors and will offer energy saving devices.
His Rural Fuel Deal scheme should cut the suppliers’ marketing and customer service costs, as the scheme would handle administration, he added.
Mr Pomfret said: “This is a revolutionary step forward.
“We are a very tiny community organisation taking on the massive industry of the energy market.
“Nobody has come up with this before. Nobody stands up for rural people who are just on electricity.”
His Community Buying unLimited firm organises bulk buys for heating oil for rural community councils, including Oxfordshire Rural Community Council.
This saves cash by co-ordinating deliveries from oil firms to rural properties. Each member is given a quote for their property on request for the new scheme.
