TWO Oxford institutions are staying in harmony after Oxford University renewed its partnership with Ox-ford Philomusica.

It means that the Philomusica will remain the university’s ‘Orchestra In Residence’, entitled to use the official university logo in its publicity.

The university agreement with the professional symphony orchestra has been renewed for five years, securing opportunities for students to work with the orchestra and benefit from master classes with visiting international artists.

It also gives students and university staff, wanting to develop as composers, the chance to have their works performed in public at Oxford Philomusica concerts.

More than 250 students have so far participated in workshops and masterclasses arranged by Oxford Philomusica, with 13 works by students premiered at its concerts.

Marios Papadopoulos, founder and music director of the orchestra, said: “Our relationship with the university has been mutually rewarding.

“We are much looking forward to continuing to build on this, specifically through our work with the Faculty of Music and the links we can forge between it and the pre-eminent musicians we are working with.”

Lord Patten, Oxford University chancellor and honorary president of Oxford Philomusica, said: “I am delighted that this excellent orchestra, which has achieved so much in just 14 years of existence, is to continue working with the university to enhance the scope and quality of music-making in this great city and well beyond.”

Highlights of the orchestra’s current season include concerts with violinists Tasmin Little, Nicola Benedetti and Nigel Kennedy.
