I’M SORRY to hear about the problems Alan Woodward (ViewPoints, October 22) had with recycling.
Unfortunately it is technically not possibly to recycle polystyrene but he can always leave cardboard, which can be recycled, folded neatly next to his blue bin if there is no room inside. The polystyrene will have to go into his green wheelie bin. It would be more helpful if the companies who sell furniture took away the packaging and would stop using polystyrene. I’m sorry too if he did not receive a satisfactory telephone response from the city council. I have asked Mr Woodward to let me know who he spoke to and when, as I’ll be happy to investigate.
I appreciate his frustration but I wouldn’t recommend him withholding his council tax. Not paying council tax can eventually lead to going to prison. Personally I think the city council refuse and recycling staff do an excellent job, but if readers feel we could make any improvements please let me know.
