I read (Oxford Mail, September 5), that council approval was given for the introduction of a reduced maximum speed of 50mph on the A40, adjacent to Summertown/ North Oxford housing, to reduce ‘pass by’ noise.
This follows similar speed restrictions that were imposed, in years past, to roads adjacent to Elm Rise, rather than the greater cost of modifying the road surface and – due to one fatal accident – on the road between BMW and Green Road roundabout but also adjacent to housing.
One has to ask why they don’t have the same 50mph maximum restriction adjacent to North Way and Old Marston village.
Surely these residents should be entitled to the same ‘sound quality’ of life – especially the latter, as the village was there long before the dual carriageway.
To the drivers that object, I say a) show a little consideration to affected residents and b) I use this stretch of the A40 and a 50mph constant speed makes more sense than 70mph stop/start motoring.
