David Shakespeare MA FRCS

David Shakespeare MA FRCS, distinguished Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, passed away on 1st September 2024 at the age of 74. He had courageously fought blood cancer for two years.
Born in Warwick, David was awarded a scholarship to study at Warwick School (1961-1969) and went on to continue his medical studies at both Cambridge and Oxford Universities. He pursued his passion for orthopaedics, earning his MA and later attaining the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).
With a career spanning over 40 years, David was highly regarded for his expertise, skill, and dedication to improving the lives of countless patients. He held Consultant roles at Warwick Hospital and the Warwickshire Nuffield Hospital, and was instrumental in advancing surgical techniques and mentoring the next generation of surgeons.
David was known not only for his technical excellence but also for his compassionate approach to patient care. Colleagues, friends, and patients remember him as a man of great integrity, intellect, and kindness.
Outside of his medical career, David enjoyed a plethora of pursuits including photography, ornithology and history. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, and friend to many. His contributions to the medical field, as well as his personal warmth and generosity, leave a lasting legacy.
He is survived by his wife Jackie, his three daughters and 6 grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. A private cremation was held in Banbury on 12 September.
