Cornbury Music Festival has announced it is bringing down the curtain after nearly 20 years.

Promoter Hugh Phillimore posted on the festival's Facebook site: "I know we’ve been here before but I wanted to let you all know that, for a combination of reasons, this really will be the last Cornbury. 

"We’ve loved every precious moment of this dear little independent festival but I’m afraid it is now time for me to hang up my festival lanyards and call it a night."

Mr Phillimore previously announced the festival would finish in 2017 but relented after he received a wave of support.

The last-ever festival on July 8 - 10 at Great Tew Park in Chipping Norton will feature Canadian rocker Bryan Adams, who will headline Saturday night, James Blunt who will headline on Friday night, and Ronan Keating. 

The Darkness, The Waterboys and Jools Holland will also perform in the final show.

Mr Phillimore wrote: "I hope you’ll all agree that we’ve enjoyed many wonderful summer weekends listening to great music, and will come away with some fantastic Cornbury memories – we really hope that you will join us this year, for one ‘Last Hurrah’!

"Thank you again for all of your support over the years – I look forward very much to seeing you in July."

The festival was last held in 2019 but was postponed twice due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Announcing this year's line-up, organisers said it had been a "long sad two year sabbatical" but it was back "with a classic Cornbury line-up".

They described the confirmed artists as "old friends who simply do what they do brilliantly and make us smile".

Other guests who were confirmed for the 2019 event included Sir Van Morrison, Dido, Jack Savoretti, and America. Sir Van has been an outspoken critic of Covid-19 restrictions and has faced legal proceedings.

No announcements have been made on these artists yet.

The festival, which began life in 2004 at Cornbury Park near Charlbury, before moving to Great Tew, has previously played host to Paul Simon, Robert Plant, Tom Jones, Amy Winehouse, Blondie, Elvis Costello and The Beach Boys.

It has also been a haunt for celebrities including Peter Crouch and wife Abbey Clancy, and locals Jeremy Clarkson, Alex James and David Cameron have also been pictured there.
