IT'S Friday and I have butterflies in my tummy; it's that ‘Friday feeling’.
Tonight was going to be a good night. Although anxious - with it being two years (or more) since I’d been to a night of dark drum and bass!
The occasion was High Contrast's 'The Agony & The Ecstasy' album launch. The line-up looked exciting, with not just High Contrast, but Dynamite MC, Friction, London Elektricity, Logistics, MC Wrec, Fred V & Grafix. And that was just the main room. The second room boasted the likes of Joe Syntax, Lung, Royalston, Eleven8, Ash Med School, and was hosted by MC Wrec, Dynamite MC (again), Linguistics and Juma Phist. Not a bad line-up at all, and the hype on the streets was incredible – we were all going!
Arriving at midnight, inside it was rammed and the vibe was friendly.
The dance floor was beautifully non-judgmental and the bars were well organised (queues short). It was fun and funny.
I did find myself complaining that the music wasn’t loud enough though. I mean, I could communicate with friends easily – is that a good thing?
Multiple ‘shout outs’ to students started to rile me, isolating me from the hip and cool, But MC Dynamite saved the day and encouraged reminiscence of days when I idolised such lyrical jokers.
It was a great night, though over a cigarette outside at 2.45am, I declared myself too old and climbed over the barrier...
Well, what were they gonna do? Kick me out?!
