THE punk music fans in and around Oxford should be proud of themselves for the reception they gave the legendary SLF last night (March 23).
The band rewarded the warm reception with a fantastic performance to the eager and devoted crowd.
After the usual rousing tune of Go For It calling people to order, the band went straight into Roots, Radicals, Rockers.
The energy was there from the start and the crowd responded equally.
SLF classics such as Tin Soldiers, Wasted Life, Suspect Device were mixed with some new songs - the latest being one Full Steam Backwards, about the travesty of the bankers who still receive hefty bonuses despite their mismanagement.
Jake Burns still has a voice that rages at old and new injustices in this world.
Among the angry punk, they can still turn out radio worthy tunes such as Nobody’s Hero and Listen.
The band left the ecstatic crowd wanting more and to chants of "Fingers... Fingers" and much clapping and feet-stamping, they returned to do an excellent cover of The Clash's own cover I Fought the Law.
Joe Strummer would have been proud.
With their final anthem of Alternative Ulster ringing in our ears, we continued to chant and stamp.
But, unfortunately, the ridiculously early 10pm curfew had to kick in at some point. Maybe the venue think us old punks need our bed these days?!
