HUNDRED Reasons seem to have been making a habit of turning our provincial gig venues into sweaty moshpits for an eternity.

On record they are solid, producing four albums veering from pop and stadium anthems to nosebleed screamcore.

But it’s live where they really shine and are still one of the UK rock crowd’s most loved bands. Tonight shows they know their way around a stage.

They have come so close to becoming a success in the vein of Feeder or Lost Prophets. It’s just never really happened.

Freshly re-released album ‘Quick the Word, Sharp the Action’ is, arguably, the band’s best yet (See: ‘Sick Little Masquerade’ and ‘Boy’) Single ‘No Way Back’ is as addictive as their signature track ‘Silver’, which still has the mob at the front tearing up the dance floor.

There is nobody who melts fizzy pop, the chant-a-long choruses and crunching riffs like Hundred Reasons.

Tonight’s audience is on the mild side - it is a Sunday – but they play like it is Saturday night on the main stage at the Reading Festival.

Their time to seize the charts may have passed. But there are MP3 players across the country that would sounds a hell of lot duller without them.
