IT is a rare sight to see a singer bring a room to an absolute standstill.
But as the incredibly enchanting voice of Lianne La Havas swept through the audience at Oxford’s O2 Academy on Monday night, everyone was captivated.
The Mercury prize-nominated singer treated the intimate venue to tracks from her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough? from the catchy track of the same name to the heart-felt Lost and Found.
It was like Lianne was baring her soul during the song Gone, about the end of a relationship, and the song showed off the soulful quality of her voice at its best.
A cover of Jill Scott’s He Loves Me proved that Lianne has what it takes to stand out among great singers.
While her songs and voice could have carried the show alone, Lianne was chatty with the crowd and was keen to involve the audience in some singing with the song Forget. But everyone appeared to be more interested in listening to her and her band rather than joining in en masse. Which was the way it should have been.
The clapping continued with cheers for more as the audience eagerly waited for Lianne’s encore.
With her sweet personality, powerful voice and catchy tunes, I’m sure we will indeed hear more from Ms La Havas.
