This is musical marmite. Either saccharine sweet or sunny and uplifting perfect pop, you will either love it or find it cloying. The whole thing is sprinkled in retro-sparkle - with heart-tingling harmonies, innocent vocals and warm fuzzy hammonds. It all sounds so familiar, like songs from some half-remembered distant past - that it’s hard to accept it’s new. But the candy-coated Cardiff class mates’ second album oozes with radio-friendly, inoffensive, sing-alongs like That Boy is Mine and Never Thought I’d See the Day, which, at best, showcase songwriter Liz Hunt’s canny eye for a timeless tune.
The School: Reading Too Much into things like Everything, is out on Elefant Records.
