- Don Broco
- Priorities
- Search and Destroy
Bedfordshire quartet Don Broco have had an exciting couple of years and are starting to make some serious waves on today’s rock scene. Their distinctive blend of punchy guitar band rock, catchy hooks and raw, laddish vocals from frontman Rob Damiani could see them being uttered in the same breath as You Me At Six and We Are the Ocean.
This, their debut album, topped the UK rock charts when it was first released last August. The new single from the album, Whole Truth combines a memorable melody with strong rhythm that lets Damiani’s voice shine. But it is the title track that sets this record apart.
Laden with heavy guitars its characteristically laddish lyrics slate a friend who spends too much time with his girlfriend. “Do you realise no one wants to talk to you?” he sings. “It’s cause you’re such a bore. You got priorities. But they’re really not sitting that comfortably with me”.
This sets the tone for Don Broco’s infectious brand of edgy, Brit-rock. In My World is another with a bold chorus, while melancholic You Got It Girl is a momentary departure.
These outspoken boys harness the kind of pub banter we’ve all heard and weave it into their compelling style. The record certainly packs a punch – it’s unsurprising their upcoming UK headline tour is sold out.
- Don Broco play the O2 Academy Oxford on Wednesday.
