Kevin Coulson tries out 'twelve inches of fun' at a former Italian restaurant ...
WHEN La Capannina restaurant closed after 44 years and a new management team bought the lease, a swift six-week renovation began. Now Fratelli’s has emerged offering an extensive menu with pasta and thin-based pizzas, ranging from £5.95 to £9.25. It includes all the Italian staple dishes and some with an interesting twist, such as the full-flavoured Fratelli bianco pizza, topped with goat's cheese, parmesan, artichoke hearts, lemon zest and cream.
Other intriguing options include the Pompeii — a pepperoni, pepper, chilli and onion pizza cooked to your preferred level of spice. The softly played pop music and attentive waiters give the surprisingly spacious venue a pleasant feel. There were only a few empty seats on the Friday night.
With a designated room for party events, a takeaway service and a bar, the new incumbents are also appealing to a broad age range. The desserts include a tasty tiramisu and, for the brave, the pizza dolce (or '12 inches of fun'), consisting of a sweet pizza base topped with cream, fruit, nuts and chocolate sauce.
Opening times: noon to 3pm and 5-11pm, noon-11pm Saturday, noon to 5pm Sunday
