Eat is a Pret-lookalike: same sort of brown packaged snacks on the shelves, four people serving at the counter; the usual claims about fresh, healthy produce. And the prices are near identical.
Not only does it face stiff competition from two Pret a Mangers in Cornmarket Street, it's got M&S (with its Dine for a Tenner deal as well as good salads) to worry about too.
The main selling point appears to be Eat's signature soups. Which aren't always soups. In fact, not only are the 'Bold' varieties exotic (Mexican tortilla with guacamole in it), they're so thick they're essentially stews.
The soups change daily - menus are available so you can look out for what's being served throughout the week. Expect to pay £3 for a small (12oz) portion.
There's limited room to sit; service is friendly and efficient; there's no loyalty card scheme.
Eat, Queen Street, Oxford
