* Mark Butcher, known affectionately as Baz by his loyal customers at the St Giles Cafe, is taking over the White Hart at Wytham next Monday. It will be closed for four or five days while he refurbishes and repaints it and plans to reopen it for Sunday lunch on January 25 “with stonking food and log fires.”

Baz will be writing about it for us in the next few weeks but when asked about how he feels, replied: “Excitement and fear in equal measure,” although knowing Baz it will be a great success. Watch this space!

* Atomic Burger is on the move. Yes, finally accepting that their fantastic premises is a teeny-weeny bit small, owner Martin Bunce has moved it two doors down to number 92 today, where it has a much larger seating capacity.

He will be writing about the transformation for us in The Guide’s food pages, so watch this space.

* The family behind the Star in Woodstock and the Flowing Well in Sunningwell has taken over The George And Dragon in Long Hanborough and hopes to have it up and running by February.

Judging by the success of their current pubs, where they run a brilliant tapas, a la carte and a burger menu, they are the perfect landlords for the pretty village pub and its lovely beer garden. Great news.

* The City Arms, long favoured by Oxford Brookes students, will relaunch on Friday, January 23, following a £230,000 investment in new student friendly offers and facilities.

A wide choice of the latest in craft beers, super-fast broadband connections and interactive digital entertainment are just a handful of the new additions at Cowley Road’s most popular pub. Fifteen front-of-house and kitchen jobs have also been created.

As part of its new offer, the City Arms will provide a one-stop shop for its customers from early morning breakfast through to late night entertainment.

Opening daily from 8am the pub will be offering a coffee shop style grab and go counter serving tea, coffee, snacks and pastries to eat in or take-away.

This, alongside free super-fast broadband, complimentary wifi-linked printer for printing off last minute assignments, plugs and USB ports on tables for easy phone and computer charging, loan of phone chargers and a free cash machine means the City Arms will be an ideal environment for a flexible working by day.

* Burns Night means The Four Candles in George Street, The Swan & Castle in Castle Street and The William Morris in Pound Way, Cowley, will be serving haggis, neeps and tatties from Monday, January 19, until Sunday, January 25 .

Expect Scottie Dog (pork hot dog, haggis, whisky sauce, chips and six beer-battered onion rings) and Highland Burger (6oz burger, haggis, whisky sauce, chips and six beer-battered onion rings).
