* Congratulations to The Old Post Office in Wallingford and The Blue Boar in Witney who have been awarded stars by The Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) for achievements in areas such as sourcing, society and caring for the local environment.

The Blue Boar scored highly on Fairtrade, ethical meat and dairy, treating people fairly and healthy eating, while The Old Post Office was commended for its recycling policies, waste management and supply chain management.

* Nicholson’s Pubs will be holding an Autumn Ales Festival for the next four weeks until November 17, which nicely coincides with British Pubs Week from October 26 to November 4.

The Crown and The Chequers in Oxford will be showcasing a range of 50 of the best of British ales on rotation over the festival and on the October 31 will have up to 15 ales, available, boasting a carefully selected range of IPAs, Pales, Traditional, Dark and Speciality brews, in addition to the seasonal ales currently being sold and a choice range of ciders.

* The Feathered Nest Country Inn in Nether Westcote, has featured in toptable’s 2013 Diner’s Choice award winners for the Top 50 Best Restaurants for Service in the UK, chosen from about 350,000 reviews submitted in the last year by diners at more than 4,000 restaurants across the UK.

* Fallowfields is hosting a Laurent Perrier Champagne Dinner tonight where each course will be accompanied by a different glass of Laurent Perrier’s finest – specially selected to match each dish.
