ALL hail the Prince of Darkness! Yes, tonight sees one of Oxford’s most bizarre musical occasions – a set by Brummie metal pioneer Ozzy Osbourne.
The Black Sabbath frontman-turned Hollwood reality show star plays the Oxford O2 Academy as one of only two... yes two... UK gigs (the other one being, rather strangely, in Folkestone).
How the night goes is anyone’s guess. We could be in for a night of blistering hard rock from a man who has lived a rock’n’roll lifestyle so wild that he got fired from his own band (and the rest of ‘Sabbath’ were hardly choirboys!) and whose trademark O-Z-Z-Y knuckle tattoos were done by himself with a sewing needle and a pencil. Ouch!
Alternatively, it could be a night of high farce. Either way, it will be memorable, with some ear-pummelling tunes, a great stage show – and a once-in-a-lifetime chance to catch a genuine rock legend in relatively intimate surroundings.
Though that could also have its hazards; If you see any headless bats come flying your way – duck! Tickets have, predictably, sold out.
