ABOUT 200 music fans packed Oxford’s Jericho Tavern for a voyage of musical discovery— and to raise money for charity.

The ninth annual Audioscope Festival, in aid of homelessness charity Shelter, was held on Saturday at the Walton Street pub.

Ten different bands performed, ranging from Bilge Pump – whose singer and bass player Ewmlyn Jones is pictured – Talons and Ute to the Mercury Prize-nominated headliners Maps.

Organiser Stuart Fowkes said: “It went brilliantly. We sold out, which was great, and the bands were all really into the spirit of the event. Tthere was a really nice, positive atmosphere.”

The event also acted as a launchpad for the first Audioscope album, called Music for a Good Home.

About 50 copies were sold at the event, and the CDs, which cost £10 and feature bands from eight of the nine festivals, will go on sale at musicforagoodhome.com today.

Mr Fowkes said there was a feeling of “open-mindedness” at the gig, with people coming for one band they knew and loved and finding new favourite acts on the night.

To date, the festival has raised £17,000 for Shelter.

It is hoped this year’s event will raise another £3,000 for the charity, once the CD sales are taken into account.
