WITNEY star Gugu Mbatha-Raw is once again taking the movie world by storm with her latest role in the hit film Summerland.
The actor, a former Henry Box School pupil, teamed up with former Bond girl Gemma Arterton for the wartime romantic drama set on the Kent coast under threat from the Luftwaffe.
Miss Mbatha-Raw will be familiar to fans of Doctor Who and Black Mirror and starred in The Cloverfield Paradox, Concussion, Free State of Jones, Miss Sloane and a live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast alongside Oxford’s Emma Watson.
We last saw her on the big screen alongside Keira Knightly in this year’s comedy-drama Misbehaviour and the fantasy film Come Away, starring Angelina Jolie and Oxford-born David Oyelowo.
Summerland is written and directed by Olivier Award-winning playwright Jessica Swale, and is her feature film directorial debut. It is billed as a meditation on womanhood and female empowerment and covers events in the 1920s, ‘40s and ‘70s.
The west Oxfordshire actress previously co-starred with Ms Arterton – who played Daniel Craig’s love interest Strawberry Fields in the 007 movie Quantum of Solace – in the boisterous and bawdy 2016 play Nell Gwynn.
Summerland is out now and playing in some reopened cinemas.
