FOR TV's Top Gear team to call something a hairdresser's car is usually an insult. But now they have their very own hairdresser, after barber Steve Roberts moved into their technical centre to keep them in trim.
Mr Roberts is a member of the Ford Owners' Club and friend of Top Gear's Steve Howard, known as Seasick Steve, who builds the wacky cars featured on the TV programme.
Mr Roberts wanted to move his barber's shop, Ego, from near the railway station, and he was thrilled when Mr Howard, whose company is called Euphoria Special Effects, arranged for his new home at the workshop unit on Southmead Industrial Estate, Didcot.
If he ever cuts presenter Jeremy Clarkson's hair, he is keeping quiet about it, and he is keeping his scissors well away from the oily rags.
He said: "I had a shop near the station and I wanted new premises. Then Steve suggested this."
He added: "I was thinking of changing the name to Top Gear Barbers but I decided to keep the same name. I've got lots of customers from the industrial estate.
"I've put a massive sign outside and it's proving quite popular."
