Worldwide sales of Minis, built at BMW’s Cowley plant, last month climbed 9.5 per cent to 24,759 cars, up from 22,619 during September 2008.
The new Mini Convertible, launched in March, sold 3,870 cars. The Mini One, now available in Hatch and Clubman versions, sold 5,534 — boosting sales of the One series by 60.4 per cent.
The number of Minis delivered to customers during the nine months to the end of September 2009 fell 12.6 per cent to 161,638, compared to 184,915 sold during the same period last year.
Earlier this week, figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders showed 8,634 Minis were sold in the UK in September, a rise of 21.3 per cent on the previous month’s figure of 7,116.
