THE McDonald’s restaurant in Headington is closed for a fortnight while it is refurbished.
Franchisees Carl Room and Mike Heapy say they are highlighting their commitment to their staff and customers across Oxfordshire with £1.1m of refurbishments., despite the current High Street downturn.
The two franchisees, who each own three restaurants in Oxfordshire, employing more than 300 people, have already started £300,000 projects at Mr Heapy’s Benson restaurant and Mr Room’s Headington site.
The Headington restaurant reopens on November 15, while Benson will operate with part closures – of Drive Thru then in-store – until November 22.
Mr Room is investing a further £80,000 on new outdoor seating at the Botley Road McDonald’s, after spending £230,000 last October to repair damage from the summer floods.
He is also planning a £450,000 refurbishment in the first quarter of 2009 at Abingdon, which has a turnover of £1.5m.
Mr Room said: “Last year’s floods were obviously devastating for everyone involved, but we’ve risen from the adversity and are now fully focused on moving our businesses forward.”
McDonald’s expects to recruit about 100 new staff in Oxfordshire over Christmas, including management posts.
