A building design firm which has scaled the heights of success in less than three years has scooped a top honour.
Red Engineering Design of Bucknell, near Bicester, was the winner of the Green Award and £5,000 at the HSBC Start-Up Stars contest which showcases the brightest young businesses and entrepreneurial talent in the country.
The directors impressed judges with their ground-breaking ideas for tackling climate change, harmful emissions and greenhouse gases in buildings.
Managing director Bob Ward said: "Designing practical ways to make our buildings much more environmentally responsible has been at the heart of Red's mission from the start.
"We have made great strides in doing just that. This award is a hugely welcome recognition of the efforts of a talented and committed team."
Red was set up in 2005 by Mr Ward and fellow directors Mike Baker, Ian Whitfield, Nick Vaney and Barry Wormald who were all experts in the field of design and project management.
Its focus on the environment and sustainability along with innovation and efficient design has led to work with major companies such as InterContinental Hotels Group, J Sainsbury (including the recent refurbishment of the Kidlington branch) and HSBC.
The company now employs 35 people - 20 in Bucknell - and also has offices in Dubai and Manila.
Huw Morgan, HSBC's head of small business banking, said: "Red Engineering Design is an outstanding example and hopefully its success will inspire other young businesses to ask what they can do to preserve our environment and protect our future."
