FAMILIES enjoyed a host of country crafts at a special event at Combe Mill in Long Hanborough.

It was the last chance to see working steam engines and waterwheels, as well as learning about traditional crafts, before the mill closes for a major refurbishment.

Among those demonstrating at Sunday’s event was weaver Sue Tucker. She said: “Keeping traditional skills alive really interests me.

“It was a really good day.”

Thanks to a Heritage Lottery Fund grant of £768,000, the mill will now have its roof and windows repaired, electrical system updated and a new building with a refreshments kiosk and toilets will also be built.

A new wheelchair accessible platform lift is also part of the plans.

It is planned for the revamped mill to reopen to the public next summer.
