NATHAN Douglas is back in top-level action today as he competes at the British Championships.
The Oxford City AC star goes for gold in the triple-jump final, which is scheduled to start at 12.25 at the Manchester Regional Arena.
It is the 37-year-old’s first major event since the 2019 Belgian Championships last September, with the coronavirus pandemic throwing this season into disarray.
Refreshed and recharged after his time away, Douglas is excited to get the chance to perform on the big stage again.
He tweeted: “It’s been a crazy time for the world.
“For athletes, it’s been hard to find facilities, motivation to train, wondering if there will be a season.
“Fortunately, this weekend I’m looking forward to competing at the British Championships.”
The two-time Olympian went almost a year without competing, but claimed victory on his return at last month’s Nuneaton Senior & Under 20 Open, with a jump of 15.77m.
He repeated the feat at the same venue one week later, achieving a distance of 16.34m at the Birchfield Inter Club fixture.
It is the sort of form Douglas will hope to show consistently over the next year as he targets a place at the rearranged Tokyo Olympics next July.
