A gold club is celebrating a successful year of fundraising after collecting more than £16,000 for a charity which provides palliative care and bereavement support.
Hennerton Golf Club near Wargrave in Berkshire recently presented Sue Ryder, which has a hub in South Oxfordshire, with a cheque for £16,519.
Men’s captain, Geoff Knight, and ladies captain, Jill Thompson, led the fundraising charge, which has included ladies golf and coffee mornings, a Hogwarts-themed captain’s day, and a cabaret evening.
Mr Knight, who has been a supporter of Sue Ryder since a close friend received palliative care from the charity’s nurses, said: "I firmly believe the best and most effective way to fundraise is to create a platform whereby not only the charity benefits, but those donating also have a joyful experience - something I believe we have all achieved this year.”
The cheque was presented to Fern Pilutkiewicz, head of hospice fundraising at Sue Ryder.
She said: "Geoff and Jill have tirelessly fundraised throughout the year, and it was an honour to accept the cheque and thank their fellow members.
“I was warmly welcomed from the moment I arrived, and you could really tell how kind and generous the members of the club were."
Hennerton Golf Club’s charitable events committee is now seeking corporate sponsorship to match and boost their contribution, with interested parties encouraged to contact the club treasurer on 07956 559 290.
