Jake Bugg wowed a sell-out crowd at his Oxford gig this week and was even offered a slice of pizza by Oxford Mail’s Ed Burnett.
It is always a pleasure to cover live music gigs as part of the job and this was definitely the case on Monday night as I went to watch singer Jake Bugg.
The 30-year-old was playing at Oxford’s O2 Academy in Cowley Road as part of his latest nationwide tour.
My partner Jordyn and I attended having listened to the Nottingham-born star for many years ever since hearing his hit Lightning Bolt.

Taking to the stage just after 8.10pm in front of a sell-out crowd, Jake came out with an acoustic guitar and very little introduction.
The singer played an opening set for just shy of an hour, performing some softer songs including Slide and Hold Tight to warm up the crowd.
After taking a short break, Jake returned to the stage with a full band.
A selection of new tunes were tested out on Oxford’s gig-goers with raucous applause proving that all of these went down a treat.

Jake ensured all of his crowd had something to cheer about though as he also performed fan favourites such as Broken and Two Fingers.
This all built up to the Nottingham-born star’s pièce de résistance and major hit, Lightning Bolt.
To see this song live was certainly something special and Jake pulled out all the stops to make it as loud and as passionate as humanely possible.
The audience clapped along with the iconic beat and the majority of them sang each line back to the star word for word.
After leaving the show to grab a drink at a nearby pub, Jordyn and I decided to grab some pizza to share.

As we walked back along Cowley Road we reached the O2 Academy once more but noticed to our surprise that Jake was standing outside the venue.
Speaking to fans as his crew loaded up the trucks with band equipment, the singer looked energised after his sell-out gig.
We chatted with Jake about the gig and I even offered him a slice of the pizza to which he was almost tempted.
He ultimately chose to politely decline adding that a McDonald’s was waiting for him later on in the night with the long journey ahead of him.
It might be 12 years since Jake first burst onto the music scene with his self-titled album but Monday’s gig proves he is still providing that magic which excites crowds across the country.
