A comedy writer from Wantage has launched a crowdfunding campaign for his new picture book.

Chris Douch's book, Cheese, is illustrated by Johnny Schumann and needs funds for self-publishing.

Mr Douch said in exchange, contributors will receive rewards including ebooks, paperbacks, keyrings, stickers, a mini guidebook for budding comedy writers and an opportunity for a child's doodle to be featured in the book.

The campaign was launched on the crowdfunding platform, Kickstarter.

Mr Douch said: "The publishing industry is currently full of celebrity authors and tired franchises.

"Kickstarter gives me the opportunity to connect directly with readers and introduce them to the world of Cheese.

"As well as writing for kids, I’m an experienced comedy writer. Last year my gag was voted as the best modern Christmas cracker joke (by UKTV channel GOLD).

"So this project brings together my skills and experience to make a book that’s loaded with CHEESY humour.

"It’s the type of story that parent’s will enjoy revisiting just as much as their kids."

The story revolves around a character named Cheese, who embarks on a quest to capture the perfect photo of his friends.

It's a tale infused with visual humour and fun characters and is suitable for children aged three to six and mature readers alike.

The campaign started on Monday (April 29) and runs until 23:59 on Tuesday, June 4.

To back the project, supporters will need a Kickstarter account and a valid online payment method.
