OXFORD United boss Chris Wilder has told his players to ignore the hype surrounding tomorrow’s npower League Two derby with Swindon at the County Ground (1pm) – and concentrate on winning.

While his opposite number, Swindon manager Paulo Di Canio, says his team will be “playing with their hearts” and comparing the match to his side’s “World Cup final”, Wilder said he had concentrated on relaxing the players.

United will be aiming for their first victory at the County Ground for 38 years.

Last time the U’s won in Wiltshire was in February 1973 when they enjoyed a 3-1 success.

“Their manager has said in print that he wants to win the league, but there’s a diference between saying it and doing it,” said Wilder, whose side broke their duck on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win against Shrewsbury.

“We will keep our heads down and let them get on with it. You don’t win anything with articles or quotes in the paper, but every manager has their own approach.

“But it’s not about me, it’s about my players and it’s about the supporters getting behind us like they always do.

“For me it’s a very special club to be involved with and we’re desperate to go and get the right result.

“It’s a big game – maybe not the World Cup – but it’s very important. We’re in it for days like these. You don’t want to be scrapping at the bottom of the league.

“The players know about the rivalry and want to be winning footballers on Sundy, so it’s about getting the right balance.”

Wilder, who is expected to select a similar line-up to the one that played against Shrewsbury, said his side was hitting form at just the right time.

He added: “With the exception of Tom Craddock (knee) and Tony Capaldi (back) everybody is fit, so there are decisions to be made.

“I won’t be dropping players because we have lost two or three league games, we’re looking for the best result on Sunday.

“I’m not looking to make massive changes. We have improved with every game and we’re bang on form, but we’re not taking them (Swindon) for granted.”

Wilder, who has James Constable, Lewis Guy, Alfie Potter and Deane Smalley vying for striking spots in a front-three berth, wants his players to be cool and calm.

“It’s not about who can shout the loudest, but about the team that plays the best,” said the U’s manager.

“They (Swindon) have to do what they have to do off the back of two defeats.”

Swindon will be without defender Alberto Comazzi (hamstring), while goalkeeper Mattia Lanzano (rib) could return to the squad.

But they may include new signing Leon Clarke, a striker who has joined from QPR.
