Malcolm Shotton and David Rush will be back in the yellow shirts of Oxford United.
Shotton, who lifted the Milk Cup at Wembley back in 1986 and Rush, one of the star men of United’s promotion in 1996, will don shirts for Dave Langan and Joey Beauchamp’s testimonial match next month.
The duo head a batch of 11 players who have confirmed that they will turn out to mark the careers of Langan and Beauchamp on Friday, July 8 at the Kassam Stadium.
And with more big names on the way, both United legends admit they cannot wait for the night itself.
“I hope it is going to be an evening to remember,” said Beauchamp.
“There are some great names coming, and with more on the way, it promises to be a fabulous night for the players and hopefully the fans as well.”
As well as Shotton and Rush, Trevor Hebberd, Alan Judge, Paul Kee, Mark Angel, Matt Murphy, Mike Ford, Paul Powell, Anton Rogan and Mick Harford have also confirmed their presence.
United boss Chris Wilder, assistant Mickey Lewis and coach Andy Melville will play – with chairman Kelvin Thomas and youth team manager Chris Allen also turning out.
For Langan, who is registered disabled after 11 operations on his back and knees, it promises to be an emotional occasion.
“I don’t think I have seen Malcolm Shotton since soon after the Milk Cup,” he said.
“I am a very emotional person and when myself and Joey were introduced to the crowd before the Lincoln game, the reception we got there made me well up.
“So no doubt that meeting so many familiar faces that I have not seen for so long I will have to fight back the tears.”
He added: “I just think it is a great occaion for everyone and I hope the Oxford fans, who mean so much to both myself and Joey, will enjoy seeing so many legends of the club back playing for the club again.”
