OXFORD United have said goodbye to their on-loan Chelsea striker Danny Philliskirk.
The U’s have chosen not to extend his one-month deal and the 19-year-old has returned to Stamford Bridge.
Philliskirk had limited opportunities, playing just once, when he came off the bench for the final 24 minutes in United’s opening npower League Two game at Burton Albion.
Manager Chris Wilder said: “Danny is a very talented footballer and hopefully the experience here has been good for him.
“He has had limited chances due to the fact that the team has played so well, but his attitude has been great and we hope he has benefitted. We certainly wish him well in the future.”
Wilder has some interesting selection posers for tomorrow’s League Two game at home to Accrington Stanley – the clubs’ first meeting.
Jack Midson and Matt Green will be hoping to return to the starting line-up after dropping to the bench in midweek.
And Simon Clist and Richie Baker should have increased their prospects of getting a start after impressing when coming on at West Ham.
Accrington manager John Coleman laid into his players after their 3-2 defeat at home to Newcastle United in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.
He praised the town’s fans, with 4,000 turning up and giving the team fine backing, but thought the players could have done much better in front of the Sky cameras.
“I’m proud of the fans, but disappointed with the performance,” he said.
“I think we got a bit of stage-fright if the truth be known.
“Anyone who knows me knows I hate getting beat. If we were playing Real Madrid, Barcelona or Spain I’d be disappointed losing because I think we can beat anyone at home.”
