ZOE Shipperley and her England women's teammates were cruelly denied hockey gold at Glasgow 2014 tonight.
The 24-year-old defender, from Marsh Gibbon, was part of the side who led Australia 1-0 with 20 seconds left, only to be pegged back and lose in a shoot-out.
Shipperley, who is a former pupil and staff member of St Edward's School, Oxford, only made her England debut this year, but now has a Commonwealth silver to her name.
Former Oxford University student Dan Fox was part of the England men's team who lost 4-1 to Australia in today's semi-final.
England will take on New Zealand in tomorrow's bronze medal match.
Meanwhile, Oxford's Nathan Douglas finished 11th in the men's triple jump final.
The Oxford City AC member had a best jump of 14.56m.
