ABINGDON put in a strong performance in the third round of the Veterans League at Bracknell.
The men’s team finished second and the women third.
Vet 35 James Bolton (400m B and 5,000m B), vet 50 Steve Pomeroy (hammer and shot), Pete Stepney (400m) were among the winners for Abingdon.
MICHAEL Dawes and Alfie Rowett were in fine form at the Midlands Counties Senior and U20 Championships at Nuneaton.
Dawes won silver in the under 20 men’s hammer with an effort of 52.66m.
He then threw 35.39 when also runner-up in the discus.
Rowett, competing in his first year as a senior athlete, finished fifth in his 200m heat in a time of 21.97secs.
HEADINGTON'S Sam O'Neil finished tenth in the Banbury 5, with Oxford City's Mark Tyrrell 12th.
Meanwhile, Alchester’s Andrew Stickley won the Launton Lollop 10k.
The 41-year-old triumphed in 38.19, claiming victory by nine seconds.
BICESTER’s Ben West secured his selection for the National Schools Championships with a win in the intermediate boys 1,500 metres at Horspath.
West, who last week became the club’s under 17 record-holder over the distance, produced one of his fastest times of the year, clocking 4mins 11.3secs at the Oxfordshire Schools Track and Field Championships.
Banbury’s Ollie Sprio won both the 100m and 200m.
Oxford City’s Jade O’Dowda clinched the senior girls’ 100m hurdles and shot titles, while Ella Saunders, representing Oxfordshire Schools, triumphed in the 400m and 800m.
In the intermediate girls’ event, Kyra Hannibal, who competes for Reading, claimed a hat-trick of golds when winning the 100m, 200m and the shot.
Kylah Rowlands, of Radley, also enjoyed a double success, triumphing in the intermediate girls’ 80m hurdles and high jump.
Her feats were emulated by clubmates Ella Lovibond (discus and hammer) and Holly Griffiths-Brown (triple jump and 300m hurdles).
Oxford City’s Alex Turnbull-Irving won two golds in the junior boys event, triumphing in the 100m and 300m.
In the girls competition, Chessy McPherson, representing Oxfordshire Schools, claimed the sprint double in the 100m and 200m.
