SOPHIE Carter was an emphatic ladies’ winner of the hilly ten-mile road race at Witney.

The Belgrave Harriers athlete, from Woodstock, completed the course in 1hr 1min 38secs to finish 12th overall.

Carter came in almost two minutes ahead of fellow vet 35 lady Rachel Masser (Woodstock Harriers), who was second in 1.03.34.

Diane Moore (Headington Road Runners) took third in 1.04.58 – remarkably this was the first race she has not won in 2014.
