Oxfordshire recorded a tremendous 22-17 win over third-placed Cheshire in the BDO Inter-Counties Championship Premier Division at East Challow RBL.
Oxon’s ladies A and B teams both recorded 4-2 wins, while the men’s A team went down 7-5 and the B team drew 6-6.
Although the men’s A team were pipped, Steve Foster, with a 29.81 average, provided the highlight of the match by claiming the notable scalp of world championship runner-up Tony O’Shea.
Cheshire, who had thrashed Essex 32-7 in their previous encounter, arrived full of confidence.
But they were quickly put on the back foot as Oxon took the ladies B match with wins from lady-of-the-match Julie Newman (18.45), Cali Birch, Irene Richardson and Babs Manning.
Oxon maintained their two-point cushion by sharing the spoils in the men’s B contest.
Wins came from Graham Manning, Wes Topley, Kevin Wilkins, Olly Varney, Paul Farnes and Shaun Holley (26.24), who marked his debut with the man-of-the-match award, as Oxon ended the opening day 10-8 ahead.
The ladies A match saw Oxon increase their advantage with lady-of-the-match Louise Carroll (19.95), Newman, with her second victory of the weekend, Karen Williams and Rachel Dixon putting the visitors to the sword.
Oxon’s men’s A team went down narrowly to a very strong Cheshire side, but they did enough to clinch victory.
Ade Larner (25.99), Pete Hall (25.26), the recalled Ronnie Anderson, Preben Krabben (25.91) and Foster, with his 3-1 victory over O’Shea, were Oxon’s winners.
There was also a valiant effort in defeat by Les Radford, who hit 11 ton-plus scores with a 26.16 average in a 3-2 defeat.
