PETR Cech was named man of the match on his Oxford City Stars debut after making a string of key saves.

Former Chelsea goalkeeper Cech signed for the Stars in June and made his first appearance for his new side in a challenge fixture away to Solihull Barons.

Ross Miller started the clash in goal, as the hosts took the lead 11 minutes into the first period, via Jordan Stokes.

Danny Williams equalised for the Stars, assisted by Josh Abbott with 22 minutes on the clock.

Halfway through the second period, Cech replaced Miller for his Stars debut.

The 41-year-old was immediately in the thick of the action, taking and holding a Filip Byfalt shot on goal.

The Stars then took the lead through Aaron Moody, who was assisted by Darcy Flanagan.

Cech made two more good saves towards the end of the second period and blocked a wraparound attempt at the near post in the third period.

Four-time Premier League winner Cech was finally beaten though when the Barons went forward and Alex Whyte tapped home underneath the feet of the former Stamford Bridge hero.

Cech made further saves from Whyte and Niklas Ottosson to preserve a 2-2 draw for the Stars, who begin the season away to Chelmsford Chieftains – a former side of Cech’s – on September 17.
