RYAN Ledson dedicated his injury-time winner to Oxford United's travelling support after the midfielder ended a tough week on a high.
There was a concern the 20-year-old would be lining up for Preston North End today, but United rebuffed the Sky Bet Championship club's interest in the transfer window.
And he came up trumps in an incredible game at the Valley, as United came from 1-0 and 2-1 down to win 3-2.
Ledson provided the killer blow in the 94th minute and was quick to pay tribute to the 1,381 who made the trip from Oxfordshire.
He said: "You can’t beat a last-minute winner, can you?
"Honestly, it meant everything. I get on with the fans really well.
"They come in their numbers and pay their hard-earned money.
"They’ve been through a tough time with the likes of me, Si (Simon Eastwood) and Roths (Joe Rothwell) not knowing if we were staying or going.
"That was for them."
Todd Kane had equalised in the 89th minute, capping a memorable debut for the full back, who joined on loan from Chelsea on deadline day.
He said: "When the ball came into the box I thought ‘I’m going for this one’ and luckily it went in.
"I’ve always had goals in my game. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t.
"It was important we stayed in the game and at 2-2 I thought ‘this game isn’t over’.
"The Scouser popped up to win it and I’m really happy."
Caretaker boss Derek Fazackerley was thrilled with the performance, although the cheap goals United conceded gave him plenty of food for thought.
He said: "It was a fantastic game which ebbed and flowed.
"When you get a game like that the most important thing is to come out on the winning side and fortunately we did.
"I thought the performance in many respects was outstanding.
"Again I’m disappointed in the two goals we conceded and we keep giving ourselves mountains to climb, but today we were able to climb the mountain."
