WEARING the Oxford United captain’s armband is an enjoyable experience rather than a burden, according to John Lundstram.
The midfielder inherited the role following Jake Wright’s departure last month.
Lundstram, 22, was a key player in United’s promotion-winning side last season, but has struggled to hit the heights since.
It has led some to wonder whether the added responsibility is the reason behind the dip in performance.
The skipper, who is not the only one yet to find their best form, rejected the suggestion and believes the side are one win away from calming the nerves.
He said: “It’s definitely not a burden, I’m enjoying it and I’m made up to be chosen as captain.
“I think once we do get that first three points everything will settle down.
“It’s because we’ve come into a new league and we haven’t got the first win yet.
“We’re not panicking at all, we’re just saying we need a win. Once we get that we’ll be fine.”
The U’s host Peterborough United tomorrow on the back of successive defeats at Bristol Rovers and Fleetwood Town.
Lundstram said: “We’ve lost two games but we can still go on and win the next one.
“If we do that and win at Sheffield United (next Saturday) then everyone is singing and dancing again.
“We just need a positive result on Saturday to take us forward.”
