Oxfordshire's Katherine Hawes helped England lift the Clara Johns Trophy for the seventh successive year with victory in the British Isles Women’s International Series at Stanley IBC, Durham.

The Oxford & District star played at No 2 alongside skip Sian Honnor, Jamie-Lee Winch and Michelle Barlow as her rink won all three of their matches.

They opened up with a 25-13 win in England’s 137-102 victory over Scotland, before following up with a 33-9 success in a 165-65 thrashing of Ireland.

Hawes and her rinkmates completed a hat-trick of wins by edging home 17-12 in a 117-102 triumph against Wales.

“That was the first time that the rink has been together, but it worked really well and I really enjoyed playing in it,” said Hawes.

“It is a bit hard to blow your own trumpet, but I had quite a good series.

“I thought we all played well as a team. It was a good team effort throughout the weekend.”

Hawes was named as player of the series 12 months ago, and that honour stayed in the rink this year with Barlow picking up the prize.

“The last game was the toughest,” added the Oxford & District star. “The other games we seemed to be in control, but the last game was a real fight.

“We just managed to come through and it’s always nice to have three wins on your rinks as well as the overall team winning.”

Now Hawes is looking forward to the English Indoor National Championships where she will represent Oxford & District in the triples alongside Carole Galletly and Jane Murphy.

They face Sally Williams, Lyn Howard and Penny Cresswell (Dolphin, Poole) in the first round at Melton & District IBC on Wednesday, April 8.

Galletly is also through to the final stages of the singles where she will take on Bristol’s Ros Constant in the last 16 on Friday, April 10.
