WITH regards to John Tanner’s letter (Oxford Mail, August 5) regarding the Calais immigrants’ abuse of the system and Theresa May’s failure to crack down on the system.
The arrogant French say it’s our fault as our welfare system is so generous.
Mr Tanner should remember in about 1947-8 Atlee’s government set up the welfare state.
Those who are legal do a good job of work, but it’s the illegals who prey on the black economy who cause strain on our systems.
University students come in on student visas and are legal. Other workers have work permits and departure dates.
It is very wrong that drivers and haulage firms are heavily fined when they can be unaware of their passengers.
They should be sent back to France and then back to their country of origin.
No doubt human rights do-gooders will call me a fascist and racist.
As regards to the French, what has happened to “liberty, fraternity and equality”?
