Today before dusk travelling home from Islip, we suddenly saw a huge boulder in the road close to the grass verge.
Too late to swerve to miss it, our front nearside wheel hit the rock with a bang and caused the car to bump over it.
All seemed okay so we carried on towards home, only to see four or five more large stones on the same road before reaching the A34 slip road.
We can only assume these rocks came from overloaded tipper lorries coming from the railway works near Islip. Surely these loads should be covered with tied-on tarpaulin to stop rubble or boulders falling off? If one hit a vehicle passing in the opposite direction, serious injury could result.
Today’s letters
As we neared Eynsham the tyre went completely flat and we had to stop and call out the RAC, who kindly did a temporary repair to get us the last few miles to home. I reported these dangerous highway obstructions to the police.
Hopefully the police will speak to the haulage firm whose lorries are continually back and forth along this route.
