THOUSANDS of business cards will be individually hand numbered to commemorate all those who died in a genocide.
Oxford-based artist Katie Taylor is inviting people to help in creating the 8,372 cards at Magdalen Road Studios on Sunday before they go on display at Oxford Town Hall.
The artwork is being created to mark 23 years since the Srebrenica genocide when 8,372 mostly men and boys were murdered and buried in mass graves in the former Yugoslavia.
Ms Taylor, whose masters degree currently explores the genocide at Srebrenica, said: “This will be an act of remembrance that will help to raise awareness and remind us all of the consequences of hate.”
On July 11 she has been invited to The Remembering Srebrenica Memorial event at The Guildhall in London as one of 11 community champions who will light a candle of remembrance in recognition of the work they do to remember Srebrenica.
The cards will be on display in the town hall during Srebrenica Memorial week from July 8 to 15.
The mayors office are hosting a memorial event on July 11 after which the cards will be handed out and placed in public spaces.
